What is the role of the Rape Crisis
Program's Law Enforcement Liaison?
Jane Hess, our Law Enforcement
Liaison, provides ongoing support, information, and assistance for
sexual assault victims who choose to pursue criminal charges
against their offenders.
If you are a survivor of sexual
assault, our Law Enforcement Liaison can help you by...
 | explaining your options
|
 | helping you think through the
decision about whether or not to pursue criminal charges, based
upon your personal feelings and your individual situation |
 | helping you understand the
stages of the police investigation |
 | facilitating effective and
timely communication with the detective who is investigating
your case |
 | accompanying you and
providing support during police interviews, line-ups, etc. |
 | providing information about
police procedures such as the polygraph, voice stress analyzer,
etc. |
 | explaining the phases of the
criminal justice process (from preliminary hearing through grand
jury, trial, sentencing, post-sentencing hearings, and parole
process) and helping you prepare for your role within this
process |
 | accompanying you to provide
support during criminal justice proceedings |
